Sina represents Australia at the Oceania Athletics Championships

July 27, 2017

Year 12 student Sina Wildraut spent a week of her holidays not holed up in her room preparing for the HSC trials, but instead living in the Athlete’s Village in Suva, Fiji.

The Oceania Area Athletics Championships featured the top athletes from 22 federated states and nations. Sina represented Australia in the Under 20s Women’s Discus, throwing 38.77m to go home with the Bronze medal.

Sina has been involved in Athletics since she was five years old, and now trains once a week with her discus coach and twice a week with Bankstown Sports Club for her sprinting. In March this year, she represented NSW in discus at the National championships. Just this week, she won all three throw events at the Mount St Joseph athletics carnival. Sina will probably have a break from her training when she sits her HSC examinations next term.

Sina enjoyed her stay in the Athletes Village, although she did complain about the “very long walk” to the dining hall. Hopefully this was not too much of a strain for all those athletic bodies!
